NaturePEI – The Natural History Society of PEI will hold its next meetings on:
On Tuesday June 7, 2011 7:30 p.m. at the Farm Centre, 420 University Av. Charlottetown Dr. Pierre-Yves Daoust will speak on the topic The Canadian seal hunt – our ever changing relationship with wildlife.
Daoust identifies that his presentation purports to offer a first hand account of veterinary observations of the hunt during the past 10 year. Considerable progress has been made in improving hunting practices, arguably more so that in many other forms of exploitation of animal resources. The population of harp seals and grey seals have increased substantially over the past few decades, despite the collapse of ground fisheries. However, this is no reason for complacency, considering climatic changes and if current efforts for commercialization of seal products are successful.
All meetings are fully open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend.
