Nature PEI April Program with John Calder on PEI’s Recently Found Fossils
On Tuesday, April 7th, Nature PEI will host a short meeting followed by a Presentation on PEI Fossil Discoveries with internationally renowned geologist Dr. John Calder. The Meeting starts at 7:30PM at Beaconsfield Carriage House in Charlottetown, and after a short raffle break, the program starts at 8PM.
Dr. Calder will share a collection of photos and stories about the ancient Permian Fossils being exposed along PEI shores by increasing cliff erosion. He will explain what these fossils are, why we are seeing them now, and why what happens, or does not happen to them, is of great concern.
Dr. John Calder is also an author and photographer, and award-winning science educator. He has written multiple scientific publications on the region’s geology, and two of his books are The Joggins Fossil Cliffs: Coal Age Galápago (Formac Publishing) and Island at the Centre of the World: the Geological Heritage of Prince Edward Island, published by Acorn Press.
Nature PEI Meetings are free and welcome all ages; annual memberships for those who wish to further support the organization’s goals and projects are $20 (cash or cheque) at the meeting.
Beaconsfield Carriage House is at the corner of Kent and West Streets in Charlottetown. Light refreshments will be served. There are plans for the presentation to be livestreamed on the NaturePEI Facebook page. More info at www.naturepei.ca
